In the Spotlight: Kleinfeld Paper at Hudson’s Bay, Canada’s Largest Department Store

The 7th floor of Hudson’s Bay, Queen Street in Toronto is an open, modern, light-filled space offering many bridal services, including Canada’s largest Gift Registry. And the 20,000-square-foot, uber-luxurious Kleinfeld Hudson’s Bay salon is the go-to place for all things bridal for our friends and neighbors north of the border, including a first-class, in-store stationery boutique, Kleinfeld Paper.

Located adjacent to the Kleinfeld Hudson’s Bay salon, Kleinfeld Paper customers are given V.I.P treatment in private offices overlooking the city. And according to the boutique’s senior wedding stationery consultant Leslie Baker, there is just no place else like this in Canada!

Kleinfeld Hudson’s Bay holds exclusive trunk shows on many weekends throughout the year. It is easy for a bride to schedule her appointment with Kleinfeld Paper the same day she is dress shopping at the salon, and many do. These complementary appointments provide the perfect opportunity to sit down with a Kleinfeld Paper consultant to discuss their wedding stationery needs.

Shopping in Bridal Heaven

Bridal customers have come to know Hudson’s Bay as a “one-stop-shop” for all things bridal. Aside from all the special events, celebrity guest appearances, and product demonstrations that Kleinfeld hosts for brides, the spacious, sparkling salon offers a beautiful, airy environment for couples to shop for all their bridal needs.

The Kleinfeld Paper department in particular displays real wedding invitation samples on two eye-catching carousels that draw customers in. A fabulous, long marble-top desk and chairs allow our customers to peruse our albums at their leisure. Customers are never made to feel rushed.

Helping Bridal Clients of All Styles (and Budgets!)

Many Kleinfeld Paper customers come in knowing exactly what they want. They have done their research and have very clear ideas. But as the boutiques senior invitation consultant, Leslie says she also loves working with customers who really need help with everything, from choosing the right paper and typeface to the wording of the invitation.

Kleinfeld Paper collections always impress upon customers that there is something for every budget! “The last thing we want is for a bride to feel that her invitations will look cheap because she has a small budget,” says Leslie. She directs them to beautiful designs that offer a variety of choices in print techniques and papers that range in price. Her knowledge about where to save money helps customers stay within their budget. “It could be as simple as changing the card format, eliminating a second color, or reducing the number of components,” Leslie explains. “The important thing is that the invitation be a true representation of who they are as a couple.”

3 Tips and Trends

Sparkle & Shine

Kleinfeld Hudson’s Bay sees many brides looking for the “bling factor” and this carries over into their wedding stationery. These are clients who want their invitations to sparkle and shine. “I love to show these brides the many design elements throughout Kleinfeld Paper’s collections that can easily be used to customize different wedding invitations.” Leslie points to trends like foil as embellishment, pearlescent paper, and glitter linings.

When it comes to the growing role of social media in weddings, Leslie sees a lot of brides creating wedding websites as a way to communicate additional information to their guests. She recommends printing a couple’s website address on their wedding stationery to direct guests there. Kleinfeld Paper wedding invitation suites offer a variety of enclosure cards that include customized social media cards specifically for this purpose.

Special Touches

Leslie also likes to direct her clients towards the following ideas:

  • Digitally print guest addresses with return address on the envelope (back flap). Big impact for little cost!
  • Add a lining to the envelope – this is not ordinary mail, after all!
  • Use two different font styles on the invitation. A nice script style for the couple’s own names, and a block-style font for everything else. This helps their names really stand out!
  • Follow the time-honored tradition of using an inner envelope, budget permitting. This allows the guest to toss the torn outer envelop and keep the invitation and other components securely contained until the big day.
  • Times are changing, so it’s also okay to bend and stretch invitation etiquette rules a bit in order to create something that is unique to your situation.

About Your Appointment

Appointments are usually booked in advance by calling 416-861-4814, but walk-ins are also welcome.

Once Leslie obtains all the pertinent details, such as number of wedding guests and the wedding date, she’ll inquire about the venue. “A couple’s wedding venue can inspire ideas galore if the bride herself doesn’t have a particular theme in mind.” Leslie always tries to keep the appointments fun for the customer, with plenty of laughter and banter. “I want them to remember the experience, from start to finish!” she says.
